Hello everybody!!!
Its Jess Tyler here and I wanted to show you some galleries which I went to with my class ( i know a few of you are in it, but I thought other people might like to see them)
Galleries are scattered weirdly around Rome, so if you want to see some Contemporary Art, I can put up the artists and tell you about the galleries we see as we go. Sorry the quality of the pics aren't great, but you can get an idea.
I am not going to put up the address to the galleries, but if you want just find me or ask on this blog thing and I will post which one you want!
- Thereis some new Cy Twombly work in the Gagosian Gallery, which is also new and the biggest gallery space you will see in Rome and maybe anywhere.. not sure. If you are not a Cy Twombenere you should at least see the space and the show might end soon, and it has been rumores Keifer will be next and that is something exciting in my book. anywho.... its not far from school and its free...
- Sorry, this one is very sketchy.. because i can not find the name of the artist or the gallery.. but it is right near popolo, go to the farthest right street (out of the three walking toward the center of city from popolo) via di Ripetta...then turn right on (I think) via del vantaggio..it will be on your right...hmmmm oh well this is what was there a sculpture peice from an italian artist who works with wood, it smells great in the gallery because of this. FREE
- There were two galleries in Trastevere...the first was at Galleria Lorcan O'Neill Roma who has Luigi Ontani showing....crazy things are happening there, this artist does scuplture, photography, one of the photos is a hologram of three pictures of him, the second photo below...FREE
- The second Trastevere gallery is in this strange space called Volume. It is owned by a neurosurgeon who enjoys art and has a collection he wants to show. Right now he is showing recent Carla Accardi (who is in her 70's or 80's! kudos) you can see her early works in the Galleria Nazionale di ARte Moderna, which is right near school. FREE
- Giuseppe Gallo and Avish Khebrehzadeh are showing at MACRO Museo ARte Contemporanea Rome (the space was weird and disorienting at first, just got to go up the stairs to the galleris, you will feel better)...not the one in Testaccio (that MACRO is open later in the day and it is an old butcher building, they renovated, but left all the hooks and empty animal stalls to creep you out, there is an architecture-esque show going on, more about the future and idea of space)... It cost one or two Euro for students.
- One of the first galleries we went to was Z2O Galleria I Sara Zanin, who are showing Giuseppe Stampone, this was an interesting show, kind of took on a Leonardo di Vinci feel, with drawings of models and actual models, but it is clever. It is down behind the Colloseum and its FREE. Giuseppe has a website - http://www.giuseppestampone.com/
So if you are interested in finding this places, get in touch with me through this blog or email: TUA07152@temple.edu or find me in my studio. (give me some notice, i might not have the info on me.... or find the other kids in my class.. those of you who are, if you have more or better info or more pics! from your experience, put it up~~!! CAIO>!
